Final Report
SHANGHAI SHENHUA TAKE DESERVED WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT TITLE
Published on: 27 July 2025

Shanghai Shenhua Women beat QPR Hoops 2-0 to win the Women’s tournament at the Soccer7sSeries. Yu Jia Hui, who hadn’t scored since her hat-trick in the opening game set up the team’s momentum, rediscovered her scoring habits when it mattered most with two goals either side of half-time. Despite a determined effort from the Hoops, Shenhua’s victory and title was well deserved both in the game and across the tournament - a record of 18 goals for, two conceded and winning every game they competed in. Eastern Thunder Women, meanwhile, won the Plate competition with Anupha Noinueai’s goal separating the Thai side with opponents Selangor FC. With the day beginning with semi-finals before the winner-takes-all event - Shanghai looked to be on for another big win when they took just two minutes to score their 15th goal of the Soccer7sSeries against Hashtag United. However, the Chinese side were shocked when United hit back to equalise immediately after. Two minutes into the second half, Zheng Juayi tapped in her second of the game and her fourth of the tournament to help Shenhua retake the lead. Despite a late rally from a spirited Hashtag, Shanghai were able to see out the game 2-1 despite their toughest outing of the tournament. Next up it was the all-QPR semi-final and it was QPR Hoops who come out the victors after going two-up quickly in the first half. Liberty Doyle got Hoops’ first with her shot from the edge of the box squeezing in off the post before Grace Stanley robbed QPR Women’s keeper and slotted home for her third of the tournament. The Hoops therefore set up the final with Shanghai but they were unable to stop their opponent’s winning momentum. Yu got her first goal by turning her defender and slotting home before she was gifted a tap into an open net during the second half to make it five goals and share the golden boot with teammate Fu Yi. Yu was also named Player of Tournament. And with the final whistle blown by ex-Premier League referee Jon Moss, Shanghai Shenhua were crowned the first ever Women’s champions of the Soccer7sSeries.
