A last-second goal direct from a corner ensured the QPR Hoops joined Shanghai Shenhua in topping their respective groups in the Women’s tournament at the Soccer7sSeries. Shenhua cruised into the semi-finals by maintaining their 100% record in the tournament with Fu Yi scoring her club’s second hat-trick of the weekend and placing herself as the top scorer in the tournament with five goals. Meanwhile the Hoops ground out a 1-0 win against Selangor FC but looked to be heading to defeat against Eastern Thunder only for Liberty Doyle to ping a corner straight into the net, cementing their place at the top of Group B. Joining them in the semi-finals will be Hashtag United, who will face off against Shanghai, and QPR Women who will make it an all-QPR semi-final in the opposite bracket. With Shanghai’s flowing attack having scored 14 goals in four games and QPR Hoops robust defence having only conceded once, tomorrow’s final could see the unstoppable force meet the immovable object. Having put four past both of their opponents the day before, Shanghai found a much more resilient opponent in QPR Women – but they continued their winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 victory. Later in the day it was back to business as usual as the Chinese side hit five against Geylang International, cementing themselves as potential favourites by winning every game to top Group A. QPR Hoops started the day as the only other team with a perfect record and despite weathering some early scares against Selangor they were able to see out a 1-0 victory to keep their run going. But the real excitement came in their game against Selangor after a cross-cum-shot ended up in the back of the net to see the Hoops concede for the first time and then chase the game. But, as time expired, Doyle tried one last roll of the dice from the corner – and it paid off. Hoops’ unassailable lead meant it was a three-way shoot-out for the other Group B semi-final spot between Hashtag United, Selangor and Eastern Thunder who were all on four points. It was Hashtag who came out on top by beating Thunder 1-0 with Selangor unable to score the three goals needed to go through on goal difference. QPR Women were the final team to earn their place in the main semi-final bracket in an incredibly tight group where the four teams behind Shenhua were only separated by two points. The tournament semi-finals will play alongside the Plate competition, for the clubs who didn’t make their Group's top-2, tomorrow when the Soccer7sSeries very first Women's tournament winners will be crowned.
