SOCCER7sSERIES WELCOMES TEAMS TO SINGAPORE
Published on: 24 July 2025

The Soccer7sSeries players have been welcomed to Singapore for a photoshoot at the famous Merlion statue to kick off the tournament – and Premier League winner Wes Morgan insists the visiting stars are raring to go. Singapore will host its latest major sporting event as 26 teams across three competitions battle it out at the Jalan Besar Stadium this weekend from July 25-27 in the international club 7s tournament. The tournament will also be broadcast globally by DAZN. The Men’s Open, Women’s tournament and Masters tournament will feature faster football and non-stop action as clubs from Asia, Europe and South America go head-to-head. On the eve of the event, players were welcomed to Singapore’s Merlion Park for team photos, to take part in interviews and get their first glimpse of the trophy. The Masters tournament will feature Leicester City Masters – including many players from the legendary 2015-16 Premier League title winning team captained by Morgan – who will compete against Borussia Dortmund and a host of former Premier League stars and international legends. “We’re excited to be here,” said Morgan. “The lads have been training and they’re ready to go. The local boys may have a bit of advantage and can surprise but we'll be ready for them. “The obvious concern is getting used to the size of the pitch, so tactics are going to be very important. The pitch could be a factor but as former professionals we should be able to handle any conditions.” The Men’s Open will feature the likes of Brazil’s Corinthians & Vasco Da Gama, England’s QPR & Coventry City, China’s Shanghai Shenhua and Indonesia’s Persib Bandung in a 10-team competition. And Harry Haysom, captain of social media favourites Hashtag United, was ready to get started admitting the chance to play in the Singapore competition was a ‘proud moment.’ “To be able to play against clubs of world renown, not many will get the opportunity to do that,” added Haysom. “So, we'll enjoy every moment. It’s a proud moment for us to be here. “Most of the clubs we're facing won't be used to our style of play, so we hope to spring a few surprises.” Standing alongside the men in the Masters and Men’s Open, the Women’s tournament will feature 10 teams ranging from local Singapore teams to opposition from England, China, Malaysia and Brazil making this a truly global event. Singapore’s Still Aerion will be one of the teams hoping to go all the way and Aerion player Lila Tan said her team was ready to take on the best. “I’m excited to be playing against strong teams and against girls who have a lot of footballing experience,” she said. “I've only seen but not played 7-a-side, so I'm super excited to be part of this tournament.” The tournament begins today at the Jalan Besar stadium with the opening game of the tournament at 16:30 as Geylang International take on QPR Women.
