Ten sides from five countries and three continents showcase the growing stature of the women’s game globally as the Soccer7sSeries pits some of the strongest teams from Singapore against opposition from England, China, Malaysia and as far afield as Brazil. Brazilian side Corinthians Feminino are among the standout names in the tournament, with the South Americans joining the Men’s Open and Masters sides from the Sao Paulo club as they aim for silverware on three fronts. Corinthians have been drawn in Group A alongside QPR Women – one of two representatives from the famous old London club – Shanghai Shenhua Women from China, and Singaporean teams Geylang International and Albirex Niigata FC (S) Women. And highlighting the star power at the Soccer7sSeries, Albirex player-coach Kana Kitahara was part of the Japan squad that reached the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup final. There will be an all-English clash in Group B where QPR Hoops take on Hashtag United Women – the digitally-born club who remain a huge hit with Gen Z and can expect plenty of support from the stands in Singapore. The two teams will be joined by Malaysia’s Selangor FC and two local sides in Eastern Thunder Women and Still Aerion, who feature another FIFA Women’s World Cup star in Thailand’s Sunisa Srangthaisong who appeared in the 2015 and 2019 editions. With two groups of five, four places in the semi-finals on the line and a host of star names, the Women’s tournament is ready to deliver on the big stage.
